The different series and models

There are currently 9 different series, one SE and 2 Ultra of Apple Watches with different features and price points.


Apple Watch Series 1

This is the first generation of Apple Watch, released in 2015. It can no longer be purchased from Apple.

Apple Watch Series 2

It was released in 2016 and has a faster processor, GPS functions and is water resistant.

Apple Watch Series 3

This watch was launched in 2017 and features a faster processor, cellular connectivity and an altimeter.

Apple Watch Series 4

It was released in 2018 and has a larger display, an ECG app and fall detection.

Apple Watch Series 5

It was released in 2019 and features an always-on display, built-in compass and international emergency call.

Apple Watch Series 6

It was launched in 2020 and features a blood oxygen sensor, an always-on altimeter and faster charging times.

Apple Watch SE

It was also released in 2020 and is a cheaper option compared to the other series. It has many of the same features as the Series 6, but with some limitations, such as the lack of an always-on display and a blood oxygen sensor.

Apple Watch Series 7

This was released in 2021 and has a larger display with QWERTY keyboard and even faster charging.

Apple Watch Series 8

Released in 2022, it has a longer battery life and advanced health sensors.

Apple Watch SE (2nd generation)

The Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) was released in 2022 and differs from the 1st generation by using the more powerful S8 SiP with 64-bit dual-core processor and the W3 Apple Wireless chip, an improved Retina LTPO OLED display with higher brightness, as well as a nylon composite case back and sapphire crystal, which offers increased performance and robustness.

Apple Watch Series Ultra

The Apple Watch Ultra was released in the same year as the Series 8 and differs from the Series 8 mainly in its more robust design with a titanium case, a larger and brighter display, longer battery life, improved GPS functions and higher water resistance, making it ideal for outdoor and extreme sports.

Apple Watch Series 9

Released in 2023, it offers improved performance and faster processing speeds over the Series 8 thanks to its more advanced chipset, resulting in faster responses to commands and more efficient operation of apps.

Apple Watch Series Ultra 2

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 differs from the first generation Apple Watch Ultra mainly by a more powerful S9 SiP with 64-bit dual-core processor and a 4-core Apple Neural Engine, which provides improved processing speed and more efficient functionality, as well as an extended battery life of up to 72 hours in power saving mode.
